1.0 Introduction NoPaperForms is an online enrolment management platform that provides end-to-end solutions for education institutions, including online application, admission, enrolment, and fee payment. The platform helps educational institutions streamline their enrolment process and improve their conversion rates while providing a seamless experience to applicants. 2.0 Cornerstones of development of education technology in India India's education technology market has been on an upward trajectory in recent years, thanks to various factors such as technological development, favourable demographics, and a growing economy. These factors have paved the way for the development of innovative and efficient tools for educational institutions to manage their operations effectively, from enrolment to student management, assessments, and more (Mital, Panwar & Jawalgi, 2022). 2.1 Technological Advancement a. Automation and Efficiency: The evolution of new technology has led to automated processes that have enabled educational institutions to improve their efficiency and productivity. For instance, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education has enabled the development of chatbots and virtual assistants that can assist students and faculty members in various tasks, such as answering questions and grading assignments. This has reduced the workload on faculty members, giving them more time to focus on other important tasks (Mital, Panwar & Jawalgi, 2022). b. Digital Identity Verification: With modern technology and the Aadhaar biometric identification system, digital identity verification is now more easily available. This has lessened the risk of fraudulent activity by making it easier for universities to verify students' identities. Using this technology has streamlined the admissions process and reduced the time and effort required to verify students' identities (Díaz et al., 2019). 4
c. Mobile Applications: In recent years, mobile apps have grown in popularity in the education industry, giving students choices for filling out applications while on the go and avoiding lines. Now that educational institutions are providing students with mobile apps that let them follow the progress of their completed applications, the procedure is more open and effective. This has enhanced the educational experience for students while also giving institutions of higher learning a competitive advantage (Fox-Turnbull & Stables, 2019). 2.2 Favourable Demography a. Growing Population: India's large and growing population provides vast growth opportunities for the education industry. In India, 41% of people are under 18 years old and have the potential to pursue higher education. The increasing demand for higher education has led to the growth of educational institutions, creating employment opportunities and contributing to the country's economic growth (Mital, Panwar & Jawalgi, 2022). b. Increased Enrolments: Enrolments have risen throughout time as a consequence of the expansion of universities and colleges as well as the enormous number of higher education courses available. Higher education's Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) grew from 20.8% in Financial Year 2012 to 24.5% in Financial Year 2016, offering economies of scale to businesses that provide online enrolling services. Institutions that provide both online and offline services have an advantage in the growing rivalry amongst colleges for the same student pool (Díaz et al., 2019). c. Financial Inclusion: Substantial portions of the student population may now make digital payments, allowing them to participate in the formal economy as they pursue their education. The Indian government's programmes such as Digital India and Jan Dhan Yojana have made digital payments accessible to the public and opened the road for financial inclusion. This has 5
boosted convenience and transparency, reduced cash transactions, and improved financial management (Mital, Panwar & Jawalgi, 2022). 2.3 Economic State a. Growing Market: With 1.5 million schools serving 259.4 million pupils, India's education industry has been expanding quickly. The higher education institutions served roughly 34.2 million enrolled students, and the market was projected to be worth US$144 billion by 2020. The sector has seen a rise in enrolments as a result of the expansion of universities and colleges and the accessibility of many more higher education courses. The growth of the sector has resulted in the infusion of funding worth over US$145 million in 2016 (Mital, Panwar & Jawalgi, 2022). b. Employment Opportunities: The expansion of the education business has generated many job possibilities, including those for teachers, administrators, IT specialists, and content developers, among others. The development of the sector has also led to the formation of new enterprises, such as online education platforms and education technology firms, which are creating jobs and contributing to the economic prosperity of the nation (Mital, Panwar & Jawalgi, 2022). c. Innovation and Development: The growth of the education sector has provided ample opportunities for innovation and development in education technology. Edtech companies are developing tools and platforms to assist educational institutions in managing their operations effectively, from enrolment to student management, assessments, and more (Mital, Panwar & Jawalgi, 2022). For instance, NoPaperForms has developed an enrolment engine that allows educational institutions to automate and streamline their enrolment processes, reducing the time and effort required for manual enrolments. 3.0 Porter’s Five Forces Porter's Five Forces is a framework used to analyse the competitive environment of an industry. It was developed by Michael Porter and is widely used in business strategy. The framework is used to identify the strength of competitive forces within an industry that affect 6

the profitability of companies operating within it. It helps businesses understand the attractiveness of an industry and how to position themselves within it (Anastasiu, Gavriş & Maier, 2020). 3.1 Intensity of Rivalry This refers to the degree of competition among existing firms in an industry. In the case of NoPaperForms, the intensity of rivalry is high Well-known CRM suppliers includes Leadsquared, Microsoft Dynamics, and Salesforce, as well as smaller regional distributors offering cheap bespoke solutions, are also players in this industry. Some vendors sell generic software that has been modified to cater to the higher education sector (Mital, Panwar & Jawalgi, 2022). The high level of competition makes it difficult for companies to differentiate themselves from one another, resulting in pricing pressures and lower profit margins. 3.2 Threats of New Entrants This refers to the likelihood of new companies entering the industry and competing with existing firms. In the case of NoPaperForms, the threat of new entrants is high as barriers to entry are low. There is a high need for digitalization in the education sector in terms of ease of doing business. This makes it an attractive industry to enter. Also, there were a relatively small number of businesses adopting this in the beginning stages, which led to a lock-in with institutions and a high switching cost for them in the future (Fox-Turnbull & Stables, 2019). Pricing plays a significant role in their decision-making process, and they tend to select solutions that offer the best value for money. The switching costs associated with migrating to a new solution are high, which creates a lock-in effect with the current vendor (Díaz et al., 2019). However, educational institutes have a wide range of options to choose from, which reduces the bargaining power of any individual vendor. 3.4 Threat of Substitutes 7
This refers to the availability of alternative products or services that can be used in place of those provided by firms in the industry. In the case of NoPaperForms, the threat of substitutes is minimal due to substantial investments in the conventional ERP system, extensive connection with other software products, and the complexity of data conversion, all of which serve as deterrents to switching to a different solution (Mital, Panwar & Jawalgi, 2022). In addition, the learning curve for the new programme was severe for the admissions staff, who struggled to adjust. 3.5 Bargaining Power of Suppliers According to this, suppliers have a certain amount of control over the cost and calibre of the goods and services they provide to businesses in the sector. As NoPaperForms are the suppliers, there are no opportunities for backward integration, hence this force does not apply to them (Fox-Turnbull & Stables, 2019). The industry is highly competitive, has few entry barriers, and has strong buyer bargaining power, according to an examination of the competitive environment of the education sector using Porter's Five Forces framework. Due to the substantial expenditures made in conventional ERP systems and the significant learning curve involved with implementing new software, the danger of replacements is also reduced (Mital, Panwar & Jawalgi, 2022). NoPaperForms needs to take these factors into consideration when developing their business strategy in order to position themselves competitively within the industry.
