You must address the areas identified in the Week Four Assignment that are listed below. Week Four Resource List and Rationale: Use information from the case study in this week’s discussion to help inform your decisions. For each population listed below, you must briefly identify and describe the theory or model used to guide your decisions in this case, list the services/resources you have chosen, and provide a brief rationale for each. Your rationale should include the ethics and laws of your state. You must also identify your role as a counselor when providing these resources to your client(s) in the rationale. Aging and Elderly Services/Resources for: 1. Inpatient a. This facility includes Mindful Therapy which is related to Cognitive Therapy, this combines elements of mindfulness practices and Cognitive behavioral therapy that helps the individuals develop a better awareness and acceptance of their thoughts, emotions, and experiences to better cultivate resilience so the individual can prevent and/or discourage depression and anxiety. b. Brooksdale Grayson View. 29 Grayson View Court Selinsgrove PA 17870. 272-231-2768. Brookdale Grayson View | Senior Living in Selinsgrove, PA c. This facility offers an inpatient unit that provides assistance to patients 60+ years of age with care for mental health needs and those who require treatments in a hospital setting. Assisted living, Skilled Nursing, and memory care available. This could benefit Sarah with the need for chemotherapy and to help with assistance of ADLs when weak from her treatments. This facility also provides psychiatric evaluations, nursing care needs, skilled nursing and therapies, individual and group counseling, and case management where discharge planning services are provided when care is no longer needed in the inpatient environment. Meals and medication management is provided in care plans. There is a treatment team assigned to each individual in the facility that help to support and stabilize the client for safe return to the community. This facility has multiple wings that provide services to the geriatric community based on their specific needs. Skilled nursing and psychiatric services would be beneficial for Sarah with all she is enduring at her age. PA follows the ACA Code of Ethics. A.1.c Counseling Plans- to adhere to the best counseling plan that is individualized to the client. A.4.b. Personal Values- Counselors are aware of and avoid imposing their own values onto a patient. Partial Hospitalization. A2.a Informed Consent- gives clients the freedom to choose to enter into and/or remain in the counseling relationship and be given written and oral explanation of rights and responsibilities of both the client and counselor.
2. Outpatient a. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Telehealth Services for Individual and Cultural Diversity. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) emphasizes the individual’s acceptance to deal with negative thoughts, symptoms, feelings, and/or circumstances. ACT helps to give encouragement to individuals for commitment to healthy and constructive activities that keep values and goals in mind. This is considered a 3 rd wave cognitive-behavioral therapy approach that helps with acceptance of difficult thoughts, feelings, sensations, and internal experiences. b. Journey’s Way- Geriatric Counseling Services. 403 Rector St. Philadelphia PA 19128. 215- 487-1750. Aging Services (Journey's Way) - Intercommunity Action c. This facility helps individuals 60+ overcome the stressors of aging which may lead to the development of depression, anxiety, and other mental health challenges. This facility not only helps with mental health needs but offers community involvement, housing assistance, hospice needs, care for in home. Geriatric Counseling Services are led by specialists who have an expertise in stressors that come along with growing older. Each individual is approached with tailored care for their unique situation. Screenings are offered for individuals to assess cognition and depression levels. This facility could benefit Sarah in a multitude of ways by getting her in home care as well as specified geriatric counseling. PA follows in accordance to the ACA Code of Ethics. B.1.c. Respect for confidentiality-this counseling has sessions together and separate and maintaining individual confidentiality is important. A.4. Avoiding Harm and Imposing Values. A.2.c. Developmental and Cultural Sensitivity pertains to the communication from counselor to client by using clear and effective communication that is culturally appropriate (ACA, 2014). 3. Partial Hospitalization a. This program uses Electroconvulsive Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Advancement in Recovery Program., Group Therapy, and Individual Talk Therapy. Talk Therapy or Psychotherapy. Talk therapy is when a client meets with a therapist or counselor in a confidential environment to discuss emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and anything else that could be the cause of emotional distress and mental health problems. b. Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute. A Penn State Health enterprise. 2501 North Third St. Harrisburg PA 17710. 717-782-6493. Outpatient Psychiatric Treatment for Mature Adults - Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute (ppimhs.org) c. This facility offers a mature adult outpatient program for individuals 65+ who require short-term mental health treatment. The mental health treatment provided is patient centered and recognizes the profound impact of aging on an individual’s mental health. The outpatient program is less restrictive, allowing individuals to receive help while also fulfilling other life commitments. This would particularly benefit Sarah since she does not want to stop working and living her life while receiving treatments. Services provided are consultations, evaluations, assessments, treatment interventions for emotional, psychological, and cognitive problems, medication management, individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy. PA follows the ACA Code of Ethics. A.4. Avoiding Harm and Imposing values onto the client. B.1.a. Respecting Client Rights-Considerations in diversity, respecting privacy, respecting confidentiality. E.5.a Proper Diagnosis of mental disorders.
