Biology 1002B – module 1 prelab assignment What? Reading the article likely caused you to think about your learning experiences from last term. Describe briefly how any idea from the article relates to a specific learning-related event or experience you had last term. So What? Why was this specific experience important or relevant to your success in learning? What does it reveal about which approaches to learning work for you (or not)? Now What? What choices will you make this term as a result of this experience last term? There were several learning-related experiences I had last term that relate to the article. For example, I found that before my midterm last semester, I would often revisit and re-read my notes again to memorize the content along with staying up late to cram. After reading this article I recognize that these are not the most effective study habits, and likely caused me to not do the best I could have on the midterm exam. This was relevant to my success in learning and studying as after I was able to recognize the negative impacts of these ‘study habits’ I was able to change them and do significantly better on the final. I started by fixing my sleep schedule around exam season and by doing more active recall rather than just re-reading my notes. It showed me that I learn better by testing myself and ensuring I understand the content prior to studying. As a result of last term’s experience, I will continue to implement these approaches as they seemingly work for me. I would also try new techniques such as mixing up the study material and using flashcards to enhance my understanding of topics. Hopefully these choices will allow me to propel forward with my learning and increase my studying abilities.
