Where is the site located? 5. What page contains a plan of the whole site? a. They have only uncovered small portions of the site. What are the designations for some of the largest areas of excavation at Tell Brak? 6. What page contains a chart with the periods of occupation at the site? a. In which periods was Area TW occupied? b. To which dates, approximately, should we assign Tell Brak Phase M? Using the Site Report 7. I’m interested in learning about the environment around Tell Brak. Which chapter should I read, and who authored it? 8. Figures 28 and 31 both show plans of Area CH. Why have the authors included these two plans of this area (that is, what’s the difference between Fig. 28 and Fig. 31)? 9. We typically spend a lot of time flipping back and forth between pages in these publications, trying to see connections between images, especially when studying architecture at a complex site like this. Figures 101 and 102 show different views of Room 5 in the SS Monumental Complex. In Figure 102, there’s a niched wall with an opening to its left. Using the plan of the SS Complex (Fig. 91), tell me what room we can see through the opening to the left of the niched wall. 10. Figure 138 shows two small, unbaked clay artifacts. Why are these illustrated in this chapter as opposed to some other chapter about artifacts? Hint: what’s this chapter about? 11. What is the connection between Fig. 163 and Fig. 164? 12. Tables 8 and 9 in Chapter 7 both list beads of various types. How do the tables differ? 13. Chapter 13 describes the faunal remains from Tell Brak. I am particularly interested in the remains of donkeys from the site. If I wanted to see the measurements of donkey teeth, which table should I look at in Ch. 13? 14. What chapter would I read to find out about radiocarbon samples from Tell Brak? How many of the radiocarbon samples date to the 4 th millennium BC (4000-3000 BC)? 15. Ceramics are the first category of artifacts in the “Artifact Drawings” section on p. 397. How are graphics and textual data of the ceramics organized in this section? 16. You may not know what the word “locus” means in archaeological parlance, but based on the information contained Appendix Two (the locus list for Brak), what do you think a locus is?
