WEEK 2 DISCUSSION I DO NOT HAVE A GREEN THUMB BUT I WOULD LIKE TO BE A PLANT MOM. I OWN SEVERAL PLANTS AND HAVE OBSERVED A THING OR TWO. AS SOMEONE WHO HAS MANAGED TO KILL CACTUS I KEEP TRYING. I’VE READ AND RESEARCHED HOW TO KEEP MY PLANTS ALIVE AND HEALTHY. I LEARNED HIGH PH IN SOIL IS GOOD FOR PLANTS. NOT TO HIGH BUT HIGH ENOUGH. NOTHING ABOVE 8.5. Plants thrive better in soils with base/alkaline pH. If I use water with a pH balance of 9 instead of the neutral pH 7 of regular water then my plants will thrive better. Treatment group vs control group. The treatment plant is the one where I will be pouring the gallon of alkaline water. The control plant will be the plant that I use regular tap water to water my plant. the difference between control and treatment is a control group we know the outcome because that’s what’s been done for example, the plants at Home Depot are control group plants. No special pots, they all use the same tap water and get watered at the same time of day. Those same plants become a treatment once purchased by different individuals and taken care of. Some survive while others don’t. The experimental design is my backyard on the deck. Control variables; The plants will experience the same weather, same potting soil, pots, and drain system and will be the same plant. Yes, I could repeat the experiment and get comparable results. I could expand my experiment by adding coffee ground in one of the soils and observe the difference in the 3 groups instead of two. 1. Tap water plant 2. Alkaline water plant 3. Coffee added soil and alkaline water plant In conclusion, my hypothesis was correct. Alkaline water does promote healthier plants. Consistently watering the plants also made a difference. Although the alkaline watered plants looked healthier my plants are not dying because it needs alkaline water, they just need consistency and constant watering. Yes, the results support the hypothesis. Is Alkaline Water Good For Plants? How pH Affects Nutrients . (2022, July 6). If not, explain why replication is important here.
