BIOL201 W13 KENNETH HOLDER Hey class, how are you all doing this week? In this week's discussion, I chose a topic that relates to the current topic, which is The liver. This vital organ, located in the upper abdomen, plays a significant role in digestion, breakdown, and blood cleansing. The liver is closely connected to both the digestive and respiratory systems, making it a crucial component of overall body function. The bile fluid produced by the liver is essential in breaking down and absorbing lipids in the digestive system. With the release of bile from the gallbladder into the small intestine, the liver ensures that lipids are broken down into smaller molecules that the body can easily absorb. Moreover, the liver indirectly contributes to lung function by eliminating potentially harmful materials from the blood before they reach the lungs. This is critical because the respiratory system requires healthy blood flow to operate effectively. A failing liver can have severe consequences for both the digestive and respiratory systems. Without proper bile production, the digestive system may struggle to digest and absorb fats, leading to malnutrition and weight loss. Therefore, it is imperative to prioritize liver health by consuming a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and avoiding alcohol and drugs that can harm this vital organ.
To gain a comprehensive understanding of the liver's role in the digestive and respiratory systems, I employed a variety of learning techniques. Firstly, I consulted reliable scientific sources including peer-reviewed journals authored by experts such as Trefts, E., Gannon, M., & Wasserman, D. H, as well as trusted medical websites such as the Johns Hopkins website. My primary focus was on studying the anatomy, physiology, and interdependent relationships of the liver with these systems. To enhance my comprehension of these processes, I also utilized visual aids such as diagrams from tutoring resources like Neural Academy on YouTube, and images from the Gastroenterology Consultants of Augusta website. With these resources, I was able to understand the relationship between the liver roll toward the digestive and respiratory systems. Also, these sources can help my classmates to get an insight on this topic.
