Leo Bierdman and Marcus Wolf discover the comet. This is likely because comets are usually bright space objects that move. It is easy to spot it at night with a small telescope or even the naked eye. 2. How long does the government wait after the discovery of the comet to tell the public? Do you think this is an appropriate amount of time? The government waits two days to tell the public. This is not an appropriate amount of time. I believe that if you were going to tell the public eventually, you should tell them as soon as possible so they can prepare. I understand not telling them so to avoid panic, but they did not do that anyway. 3. What does the surface of the comet look like? Icy, rocky, and dusty, which makes the surface of the comet black. 4. In the movie, how soon after “sunrise” do comet gas jets get activated? Immediately 5. What are the two ways attempted in the movie to divert or destroy the comet? a.) The special crew named Messiah was created, and launched to destroy the comet. They wanted to deflect the comet from Earth. They drilled the comet’s surface and put a nuclear bomb deep beneath the surface of the comet. After detonating the bombs, the crew believed to deflect the comet, however, the explosion split it in two pieces. b.) The other way was after the failure of the first try to deflect the comet, the Messiah crew decides they need to sacrifice themselves. Their plan was to destroy the comet but flying deep inside of it and detonate the remaining bombs they had, thus sacrificing themselves to save humanity. The plan works
