Was able to see great detail due to fullness of moon Crescent moon, very bright, looked mostly light colored, wasn’t able to see too much detail just the shape. C. D. In chapter 21.5 it discusses different phases of the moon. When looking at Smart Figure 21.26 on page 654 there is a diagram of the many phases of the moon and the moons cycle. The picture in the textbook differ from mine in regards to angle, location and most obviously technology. One thing that I can relate my photo to
is the “full moon” phase picture because I observed a full moon as well as the moon cycle. According to Tarbuck and Lutgens, “the cycle of the Moon through its phases requires 29½ days” (Tarbuck et al., 2018). When a full moon is reached twice in one month it is referred to as a Blue Moon. The moon I observed was the second full Moon in the month of August making it a Blue Moon. Moon Observation 2 Comparison: I did two moon observations 3 weeks apart from each other. The first was on August 30 th and the second was September 20 th . The first time I observed the moon it was a full moon while the second time the earth was in the waxing crescent phase. Both times the earth was very bright although the first time I feel the moon was almost clearer. I could see more details on the surface while the second time it just looked like a glowing crescent in the sky. The first time I observed the moon it was southeast but the second time it was southwest. I actually hadn’t really thought about the fact that moon would be in a different part of the sky until I took my dog out the night of September 20 th and saw it glowing on a different side of my house than the first observation. For the most part the weather was similar in regards for the visibility of the moon. Both nights it was partly cloudy, the wind was relatively low, and the visibility was 10 and 15 miles. I wish it was easier to get a better picture of the moon so that I could put picture in the assignment that more clearly represent what I was seeing these nights.
