Describe some
perceptions and observations
present in your thinking regarding your chosen
topic.
[I was raised in two very different environments. My mother was a very free-thinking individual and my
father tended to be very closed-minded. My mother taught me that diversity in people was a good thing
and that being different was okay. My father had the idea that everyone should basically follow the same
path and way of doing things. As I got older, my thinking was more closely related to my mother's. I think
it was beneficial to be exposed to both ways of thinking simply because I was able to form my own
opinions related to diversity. ]

Explain your own
biases
regarding the topic you chose for your project.
[Some biases that I had were related to prejudice. My father was very prejudiced toward people of
different ethnicities and backgrounds. For instance, I was taught that you should only date within your
own race and/or gender. As I got older, I realized that maybe his ideas and mine were different. When I
had children of my own, I taught them that people were people, no matter their color, gender,
background, etc. I am sure they will develop their own ideas about diversity among people, but I feel like
they will be better equipped to make that decision if they aren’t exposed to one-sided thinking.
