Christian Persecution Crystal Amos CSTU101_D05_202340 Professor Sandra Rawls November 23 rd , 2023
Rome was a military powerhouse, but it lacked a proper value system for its people to live by. This weakness was challenged by the rising religion of Christianity, which offered an infinite God and a moral code. Despite the acceptance of other religions, Christianity was not tolerated as it worshiped only Christ and not Caesar. “When one because Christian, it meant they stood opposed not only to other religions, but the entire culture built on those religions.” (Schaeffer, n.d.) Christians often were killed while citizens observed in response to their religious affiliation. Today, Christians are often still persecuted. There are many examples of this, however one that is quite recent occurred in 2020 during the pandemic. Churches were forced to close their doors while casinos and strip clubs were allowed to remain open. Another example of recent persecution would be the IRS targeting Christian non-profit organizations. (Wolfe, 2022) Often, persecution against Christians occurs in our day-to-day lives. Slander and mocking are common. While this persecution does not result in death, lives are often threatened. It is easy to see how we are often belittled and misunderstood.
