It’s sort of problematic because all music is world music. 2. What is not world music? The author states that world music is not rock and roll R&B, soul, jazz, Broadway, classical, heavy metal, new age, fusion, country, alternative rock, blues, disco, hip hop (with some exceptions), techno, karaoke, trip hop, and pure pop are not World Music. 3. What role has the digitization and downloading of cultures played in world music? It has accelerated the role of music convergence across cultures around the world. 4. Why did world music gain some popularity in the late 1980s? Because there was a great increase in digital recording with songwriters.
