ARTIFACTS AND ACTIVITIES 1 Artifacts and Activities: The Second Norm Development Assignment Crystal C. Cooper School of Education, Liberty University EDLC 539 Varonika Hardman November 18, 2023 Author Note Crystal Cooper I have no known conflict of interest to disclose. Correspondence concerning this paper should be addressed to Crystal Cooper’s email. ccooper30@liberty.edu Abstract This paper reviews the second norm I am unsure of 4(r): “The educator is committed to working toward each learner’s master of disciplinary content and skills.” This paper will review artifacts and activities completed to demonstrate strength development within the learning standard. It will also discuss the Biblical worldview and how it can be utilized in practice.
ARTIFACTS AND ACTIVITIES 2 Artifacts and Activities: Second Norm The second norm I do not feel confident about is standard 4(r): “The educator is committed to working towards each learner’s mastery of disciplinary content and skills.” This norm is alarming because, as an educator, you are committed to those who are learning and those with no interest in learning. When I started teaching, I was eager to help my students believe they could achieve anything and learn the skills as they progressed. I faced students with diverse learning styles who needed lessons to be modified, and those who “did not get left behind” were promoted to the next grade level without mastering the previous grade level skills. Since COVID-19 occurred, this has been a repeated thing that educators are experiencing worldwide. For this assignment, I read an article by David Blazer and Casey Archer entitled “Teaching to Support Students With Diverse Academic Needs.” The article discussed how learners cannot be taught in the same manner. Different approaches must be implemented when working with learners with diverse learning needs. Intrigued, I researched other websites and discovered the College of William and Mary School of Education. They work with Project Athena. Project Athena works with students who have a learning disability and seeks to help the learners develop skills in reading comprehension, literary analysis, and persuasive writing. I found an activity that would help educators and myself with this norm. The activity is called the “Muddiest Point”. The muddiest point is a classroom assessment technique that asks students to write down notes on the most confusing or uncertain parts of the lesson. I like this technique because it allows the educator to give immediate feedback regarding learning comprehension. This technique also works for students who are usually too shy to say anything, so they suffer in silence. This technique allows them to voice their area of concern without feeling embarrassed. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 states, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching,
ARTIFACTS AND ACTIVITIES 3 rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” Christians and educators are encouraged to spend regular time in the Bible—alone time, personal devotions, or group Bible study. Recognizing and comprehending God’s Word teaches us to know God better, serve Him better, and help us grow in our relationship. Just like knowing the curriculum establishes relationships with all our students, continuing professional development helps us become effective educators. I hope to guide all my students who come into my classroom and help them master the learning content and skills they did not know they could achieve. References Accommodating diverse learners .
