6-2: Similarities and Differences 1 Short Answer: Similarities and Differences Danielle Eiland Southern New Hampshire University December 01, 2023 As I delve into my project on justice, I've decided to analyze it through the lenses of history and humanities. Viewing justice through a historical lens allows us to examine the evolution of the judicial system over time and learn from past mistakes. By studying these
6-2:Similarities and Differences 2 events, we can make better societal decisions and shape a better future. Using the humanities lens, we can explore how communities have responded to past injustices and the impact of individual actions on past, present, and future events. Comparing these two lenses about justice, we can see that they share many similarities. Both offer insight into how our actions affect society and how justice is perceived and received. Additionally, both lenses allow us to examine specific moments in time. For example, the abolition of slavery can be viewed through a historical lens as the beginning of the emancipation of people of color and the creation of the Jim Crow era. Alternatively, the same period can be viewed through the humanities lens as the beginning of protests led by Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks and the rise of the civil rights movement. While these lenses are similar in many ways, they also offer different perspectives. The distinction between history and the humanities resides in the immutable nature of historical facts, which cannot be altered regardless of how they are perceived. However, by employing a humanities perspective, we can alter our understanding of past events, thereby utilizing the arts to foster healing or to voice protest against social injustices. For instance, the Breonna Taylor murder has been the subject of protests and the Black Lives Matter movement for a considerable period. Although history cannot be changed, the community's collective voice made itself heard, and justice was finally served through the conviction of all four officers involved in her death. While the past may be unchangeable, the perspectives of various stakeholders may be harnessed to achieve resolution or prevent the recurrence of similar incidents in the future. My exploration of the topic of justice has yielded valuable insights, particularly regarding the shortcomings of our legal system. Despite my pre-existing knowledge of its flaws, my research revealed the extent of its outdatedness and inadequacy. The recent

Wade is a poignant reminder of the precarious state of our society, and it behooves us to reflect on the implications for future generations. The study of such topics can foster a well-rounded perspective on society, raising awareness of social injustices and cultivating a sense of responsibility to work towards a better future.
