Three maxims from Franklin's "The Way to Wealth" that the characters
embody in The Great Gatsby are “Do not squander time, for that’s the
stuff life made of”, “If you will not hear reason, she’ll surely rap your
knuckles”, and “There are no gains without pains”.
Body Paragraphs: This is where you will develop each of the points in your thesis statement.
Body Paragraph 1:
Elaborate on the
first point in your
thesis statement
Topic Sentence: Gatsby and Daisy embody Franklin’s maxim of “There are no gains
without pains”
Detail 1:
Daisy does the exact opposite.
She is not hardworking and always
looks for simple solutions to achieve her goals.
She is a good example of
someone who lives by the maxim. Instead of trying hard, she always looks
for easier ways to reach her goals
Detail 2:
She lives the majority of her life unhappily.
This is a reflection of
the maxim, and it encourages people who believe in their goals and
beliefs to keep working hard.
Detail 3:
Gatsby tries to win Daisy's love and approval throughout the
entire play, even though she is married to Tom.
He throws parties, buys
expensive cars and clothes, and even changes the name of his character to
make Daisy want to be with him forever.
Concluding Sentence:
Despite the fact that Gatsby may have put in some
questionable efforts, his actions reflect the maxim "There is no gain
without pain."
Daisy, on the other hand is not rewarded for her lack of
effort or preference for easy solutions.
Quote(s) from the film you will use to support this point:
"She wanted her life shaped
immediately—and some force must make the decision—of love, of money, of
unquestionable practicality—that was close at hand," Nick into why Daisy chose to
marry Tom
Body Paragraph 2:
Elaborate on the
second point in
your thesis
statement
Topic Sentence: Gatsby and Nick embody Franklin’s maxim of “Do not squander
time, for that’s the stuff life made of”
Detail 1: The narrator of the book, Nick, is acutely conscious of the decisions he
makes and the waste of time. Along with being frugal with money, he also looks for
methods to maximize time and energy.
Detail 2: In addition to appreciating his time, Nick criticizes his cousin Daisy for not
appreciating everything that she has in life despite them being family.
Detail 3: Gatsby wants to start over and turn his life around since he knows he has
been wasting it. The Great Gatsby portrays Nick and Jay Gatsby as exemplifying the
adage, "Do not squander time, for that is the stuff life made of."
Concluding Sentence: Nick illustrates the value of having gratitude for what you
have and utilizing it wisely by hitting Daisy. This makes him think of the proverb
"Do not squander time, for that is the stuff life made of."
Quote(s) from the film you will use to support this point:
"It is not what you
have, but what you do with what you have, that counts." Nick
Carraway
"I want to forget about it. I want to start over." Jay Gatsby
Body Paragraph 3:
Elaborate on the
third point in your
thesis statement
Topic Sentence: Nick Caraway embodies Franklin’s maxim of “If you will not hear
reason, she’ll surely rap your knuckles.
Detail 1: The narrative featured multiple dreams.
Detail 2: Even with all that he could possibly want or need, Gatsby still worries that
Daisy isn't in his life.
Detail 3: Nick did everything he could to keep Gatsby happy.
Concluding Sentence: The entire plot of The Great Gatsby is seen through Nick's
eyes, and his beliefs and ideas have shaped and colored everything. Money can buy
you anything you could possibly want or need, but it cannot purchase happiness.
Quote(s) from the film you will use to support this point:
"Americans have always been adamant about being peasants, despite occasionally
being prepared to be serfs." Nick from " The Great Gatsby.
Conclusion:
Conclusion:

main points in the
body paragraphs
and paraphrase
