The profession I chose is manager in the human services, because is an area I am familiar with
during my jobs of managing. Being a manager for homecare owner had made me grow as an individual
learning behaviors of diverse employee and clients. Currently I am a manager in a residential senior
community. I oversee different department Caregivers, med tech, housekeeping, kitchen, handyman, and
outside resources. Also I have to make sure I speak on behalf of the owner when he is not present,
basically I am his assistance/ manager. Must make sure state requirements are up to date, hire and fire as
needed, stock up with supplies and much more. Being a manager I must use counseling techniques to
coach the staff in areas that they need to work on. My job can play many roles in the human services to
help not only the elders I serve, but the individuals that work to care for them and provide good services.
The National Organization for Human Services Education (NOHSE) was established in 1975.
The organization was established to provide the human services in developing response to direct a human
in needs. The human services offer assistance to their clients. As a human service the need to help their
client is by promoting and encourage the unique values and character of human services.
A professional
in the human services promote assistance to the client as well to the community. The mission of the
NOHSE is to strengthen developmental opportunities, promote professional and organizational identity
through receiving certification. Enhancing internal and external communication with others, advocating
and encouraging a social policy and agenda, also nurturing the financial growth of the
organization[ CITATION NOH \l 1033 ].
A human services worker mostly would work on a 40 hour a week. Some other agency depending
on the nature of the business may end up with 40 hours a week, some evening and weekend. Other
workers can be inside the office and others out on the fields. Career in the human services profession can
be a salary job with great benefits. Human Services is a high demand job because there is always people
to help in making a change in their lives[ CITATION Hum18 \l 1033 ].

As a human services manager is the responsibility to take the leadership role and able to manage
a team within a human services agency. Once again depending on the nature of the business or agency the
manager role can play a variety of context. The human service manager can be the sole office manager in
a human services branch office, leading a team of eligible workers. The manager needs to oversee them
workers meet deadlines and improve the processing to ensure the client’s needs are met. There would be
opportunities where the manager can be in a position to manage teams and create new system to help
improve the workflow and productivity among other workers.
The manager is the inspirational speaker to lead the workers to do right for their clients. Manger
also direct the flow of work, partner with resources, help with pitch in at different levels of the
organization and many other responsibilities. Some of the duties but not limited to the human services
manager is to be able to work with other leaderships, analyze budget and maximize fiscal responsibility,
create agenda, schedule and facilitate meetings with the employees. Able to work with others members of
agencies to manage a plan, create or implement policy changes. Manager is to direct interact with the
public and inform public of resources and resolves grievance. Evaluate the workers productivity and
employee leave plus other duties to have the knowledge about the organization[ CITATION Hum18 \l

My role in the residential senior community is about the same in the human services role. I have
the responsibility to promote positive attitude, quality care for the elderly, reach out to other agency if
home health or hospice is needed, and be state ready for licensing. I am responsible for staffing, be a
leadership for other co-workers, communicate with the other managers of the same community, order
items in a budget and keep employee fields up to date. I also need to make sure all move in have proper

that affects the lives of employees and clients in a meaningful way. If the manager working in a larger
community or company the manager may direct activities in special areas. In a smaller company the

Currently in my role as a manager in a residential care facility since is a small company I am the
jack of all trades. Ensuring all policies and be in compliance with state regulation. I must have
communication with family, employees and other to facilitate the everyday activity for the elderly. As the
morning start for me in my job I must have the right attitude to influence the staff. Provide stand up
meetings to tag team the day and provide quality care. With my role I must fix any issues with staff or
overall the company. Payroll, marketing, activity and plans of changes I am in charge. Is a great
opportunity where I am at, after reading a few articles I feel that I already started my career all I need is
my degree.
In conclusion, working in the human services filed has many opportunities to help others in
different areas of their lives. As a manger or any other position the human services needs effective
leadership. Also being able to provide the assistance to the individual by identifying the need of their
physical, psychological or social functions. The goal is to help others in obtaining the services they apply
for and eligibility. I love my job not I only help residents, but staff to follow the Maslow’s hierarchy of
needs.
