The IDEAL Problem-Solving Method
I looked over the four scenarios and decided to concentrate on the last one, which
involved Kristina and the private lending company. I'll try to tackle the current challenge by
applying the IDEAL problem-solving methodology. The IDEAL Model facilitates problem
identification, response production, and faster, more assured problem resolution. (Stein &
Bransford, 1993)
Identify
Determine The problem here, according to Kristina, a recent hire on the marketing team
of the private lending company, is that she believes the private loan company is acting
immorally.
Define
Kristina believed that rather than helping customers who are having financial difficulties,
the company's main focus is on marketing the goods. She disapproves of the organization's
competitive culture. She opened up to her supervisor about how she was feeling, and he gave her
some advice: focus on the work at hand, and you might soon be getting a bonus. Kristina
continued to work there despite her continued indecision since she was dependent on her job.
Explore
Kristina needed to think about two options. She needs to keep working for the company,
repress her feelings, and cross her moral boundaries in order to receive the employment bonus.
This conduct is detrimental and will not benefit anyone at work. Kristina's second option would
be to look for a new job that aligns with her values and aspirations. Despite the intimidating
nature of this phase, Kristina will ultimately benefit most from an effective working
environment.
Action
Kristina has the confidence to express her feelings to her management and deal with
them. However, he seemed more focused on the business and the revenue it would bring in than
he did on her feelings. Because of this, I think Kristina ought to quit her job and look for another
one.
Learn
Kristina learned from her supervisor's response and her colleagues' behavior that the
private lending industry is not what it seems to be. The behavior in this circumstance seems
unethical to me. It is dishonest of the private lending company to target those who are already
struggling financially in order to earn more business. The actions of this company are unethical,
yet they are not illegal. Kristina's sole option is to hunt for a new job that aligns with her criteria
and principles. When applying for other jobs, Kristina can use her resignation letter as an
3
explanation of her leaving the company, stating that she did so because she disagreed with its
beliefs and that she acted in accordance with them.
In this situation, if I had been Kristina, I would decide to concentrate on the action and
acquiring knowledge sections of the IDEAL method. The business's aggressiveness and tendency
to prey on those experiencing financial difficulties would also make me apprehensive. I would
also discuss my feelings with my supervisor. If my supervisor responded the same way Kristina
did, I would hunt for another job. Rather than harboring resentment towards this business, I plan
to leverage it going forward. For instance, in my next interviews, I'll ask about the core values of
the organization. This will help me make an informed decision about whether or not to join.
