Personal Philosophy of Education Kaitlyn Weller School of Education, Liberty University EDUC 305 Professor James Wicks December 15th, 2023
Personal Philosophy of Education Thinking back to my days in elementary school, I remember us going around the room and getting asked what we would like to be when we grew up. I proudly would always say “a teacher!” with a smile beaming. I was always so moved by the teachers who shaped me. Those teachers showed me how important it is to put my future students first and maintain a positive relationship as they grow in my class. I still keep in touch with those special teachers and keep them updated on all my endeavors which I can tell it warms their heart knowing they made a difference in their past student’s life. My perspective is that establishing an inclusive learning environment where students feel validated and understood is paramount. My ultimate objective is to provide comprehensive support to students in all academic areas, providing them the tools to reach success within themselves and in their education. Students should be given the opportunity to oversee how they learn to aid in their success. Giving children their own say in what works for their mind, body, and spirit within their education career is a huge deal in their success. Education plays a vital role in preparing students for their future careers and lives, and I believe that by building personal connections with them, educators can make a significant difference in their lives. My educational philosophy is based on the principle that every child is unique and necessitates personalized learning experiences that nurture positive growth in physical, mental, emotional, and social domains. By accommodating each student's particular requirements, we can accelerate their potential and help them achieve their academic goals. While becoming a teacher, it becomes more apparent that every student is special in their own way and has differing learning abilities and needs. The ability to differentiate and include all students in the learning experience is key to creating a positive and efficient learning
environment. Inclusion and differentiation provide students with the opportunity to learn at their own pace and in a way that is tailored to their individual learning style. Differentiation is an approach to teaching that involves modifying instruction and materials to meet the needs of individual students. It recognizes that each student is unique, with different learning styles, abilities, and interests. By tailoring instruction to meet these individual needs, differentiation helps ensure that all students can learn and succeed. One way to differentiate instruction is by providing students with a variety of learning activities that tap into different learning styles. For example, some students may prefer to learn through hands-on activities, while others may prefer to learn through reading and writing. By offering a range of activities, teachers can help engage all students in the learning process. Another way to differentiate instruction is by adjusting the level of challenge for each student. This might involve providing additional support to struggling students, or challenging advanced students with more complex tasks. By providing the right level of challenge, teachers can help ensure that all students are learning and growing. Overall, differentiation is an effective approach to teaching that helps ensure that all students can learn and succeed. By recognizing and responding to the unique needs of each student, teachers can help create a more inclusive and effective learning environment. We must recognize the diversity of students and use inclusion and differentiation in teaching practices to create a positive and effective learning environment. By connecting with each student on a personal level, educators can gain insight into their unique needs and preferences, allowing them to create lessons and activities that are engaging and relevant to each student. In doing so, educators can help all students achieve their full potential and succeed in their academic pursuits. As an educator, my objective is to equip students with diverse methods to learn, so that they can confidently soak up then later showcase their knowledge learned.

Cooperative learning is a valuable tool for fostering social intelligence amongst students. It encourages them to work together and learn from each other, which can lead to a more positive and inclusive classroom environment. Collaborating on tasks and projects is a fantastic way to cultivate essential abilities such as communication, leadership, and teamwork. These abilities are necessary in various settings and are sure to benefit students in their future endeavors. Progressivism, which emphasizes learning by doing, is a natural fit for cooperative learning. By engaging in hands-on activities and problem-solving exercises, students are able to develop critical thinking skills and gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter. This approach also encourages creativity and innovation, as students are encouraged to explore new ideas and find novel solutions to complex problems. “Progressive educators believed that when the interests and needs of learners were incorporated into the curriculum, students would be intrinsically motivated, and learning would be more successful” ( Ornstein, 2017). By incorporating this approach into your classroom, you can help your students become more engaged, confident, and successful learners. Another goal as an educator is to ensure and encourage safe, genuine, and positive relationships amongst students between their educators and within their friendships with their schoolmates. Encouraging and supporting students to work alongside one another, provides a healthy environment for their creativity and knowledge to flow. In my opinion, while children need guidance, the entire burden of their education and academic progress should not fall solely on their shoulders. Instead, a teacher is the key person who is there to encourage and motivate every child to reach their full potential. It is on our shoulders that they obtain the proper success in the classroom. Placing unnecessary stress/worry on a child to pass the test or get A’s is not healthy. Creating a comfortable learning environment
that empowers children to succeed at their own speed should be our top priority. Students will remember which teacher had aided in their success and provided them with the tools to further their education and overall success in their life as they move on. We as educators need to be on top of the lasting impression we leave in these students' lives. It is the teacher's responsibility to encourage their students no matter the situation. Teachers will face students falling behind and students who are achieving such high grades. At this point, the teacher must provide the proper help and learning tools to aid each specific need. In my classroom, every student will be celebrated for their capabilities and diversities, no matter what. Recognizing differences and appreciating our alikeness helps aid in a positive classroom culture. I like to look at what the scripture provides me to help shape my students, and I want God’s love for his people to show in my students. My students will know that “we are all fearfully and wonderfully made, and that when we belong to God, there is nothing that he cannot do through us” (Psalm 139:14). It is my conviction that every child is unique and has their way of learning, and it's our job as educators to provide them with the right tools to help them excel. In order to maximize potential, listening to, recognizing, and catering to the individual requirements of students are vital to the success in the classroom. As a teacher, I have the responsibility to be mindful of this fact and do my utmost to ensure that my students receive the necessary support to succeed. Education is not just limited to preparing students for the career path they decide to endeavor on. Rather, it is a safe haven that allows positive relationships to form with dedicated teachers that guide them through the physical, mental, emotional, and social aspects of life. A conducive learning environment is more than just academics, and I am dedicated to supporting my students holistically.
