Exploration Document Mia A Williams HUM200 Cultural Artifacts my first artifact that I chose is a sculpture made by Thutmose. It was Painted stucco over limestone. This unfinished portrait of the queen remains an enduring model of beauty. My second artifact I chose is a sculpture named Marble statue of a Kouros. It is in Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York As this perfectly poised nude figure strides forward. He exemplifies the Greek philosophy of physical, mental, and spiritual discipline. Common Theme The common theme expressed by both of them is leadership. I believe both masterpiece was made to help people. I see that in both statues. Personal Experience I identified is connected to my personal experience because this is what I love to do. Since I've been in this class I've learned so much about different artifacts. Profession I feel like it makes you understanding what the artifact is about. I've learned that the artifacts that I picked connect with each other so much. The profession benefits from a general understanding of the humanities is understanding the point of view of the artifact. Humanities Resources The three resources that I've decided to do research on have a lot in common. They are all made in ancient time. The reason I picked these three resources for my project is because I believe each one of them have a wonderful meaning to them. I admire how detailed the artist was. Historical Context 1
The bust of Nefertiti was an Egyptian queen. Nefertiti was born in the royal city of Thebes on the Nile River in Upper Egypt. Her name means “the beautiful one has come.” The sculpture of Marble Statue of a Kouros was a larger than life size sculpture made back in B.C. time frame. This was one of the earliest marble statues of a human craved in Attica. Similarities and Differences My artifacts are all very old artifacts. The Bust of Nefertiti and The sculpture of Marble Statue of a Kouros was both created back in B.C. The sculpture of Marble Statue of a Kouros was created in 580 B.C. Meanwhile The Bust of Nefertiti was created in 1340 B.C. They were both created by very creative artist. I later found out that they are both placed in a museum and both are worth tons of money. Medium The meaning of the bust of Nefertiti is supposed to be an cultural symbol of Berlin as well as ancient Egypt. Meanwhile the meaning of the sculpture marble statue of a Kouros is a standing man. Thesis Statement My claim is about the true meaning of the statues. Audience The ideal of the protect is to show people how artifacts are important, and how they are a big part of history. After learning so much about them it makes me want to visit the museum they are both at. Message 2
I would make sure the audience understand my point of view. I will adjust my presentation well enough so anyone can read it. I want my audience to understand what the real meaning of the statue are. I want them to understand why people looked up to these statues. 3
