Ryan Hetu HUM-100 Short Answer 5 March 2022 Cultural Objects and Their Culture Three cultures and subcultures that I identify strongly with are first national, second is libertarian, and the third is market culture. The first is that above all I am an American first and all choices that I make or contribute to should benefit Americans as a whole. This doesn’t mean that I should blindly follow the government as there are ways and reasons to challenge that as well. But it does mean that I should remove the metaphorical beam from my own nation’s eye before attempting to remove the speck out my brother’s eye. Brothers in this case being other nations in the world we all share. The second culture I identify with is a political one and that is a Libertarian one. Being a libertarian means that I and other like me believe as a rule in the minimization of the influence of government to the max extent possible and the freedom of choice and individualism. The third culture is market culture which is a type of culture that emphasizes competitiveness not only between an organization and its direct competitors but also between employees. This way of thinking continuously pushes people forward in search of new or refined ways of more efficiently doing something. Which in turn will improve our nation’s economy and by extension the global economy. Three objects that represent one of my selected cultures that I identify with is our national emblem the American flag, the idea of individual freedom, and the US Dollar. First the American flag reflects the national culture because even though the actual flag holds no value it is the uniformly recognized emblem of all things that are the United States. No matter where you go in the nation or the world, whether loved or hated the flag is recognized. Regardless of
political party, race, or religion the American flag is an all-encompassing representation of the nation and its values. The idea of individual freedom is the second “object” though not a tangible thing, freedom is something that we as Americans should value. As a libertarian, we view individual freedoms as one of the most cherished aspects of our lives. No matter your interests, priorities, or affiliations your right to individual freedom should be at the forefront of daily life both in a personal and national level. The final object is a tangible one, the US Dollar. This piece of paper is often the end goal of many endeavors and is surely at the forefront of all people who subscribe to market culture. Almost all actions can be assigned in some way to monetary value because of this, the US Dollar is globally recognized as one of the leading currencies and is accepted almost anywhere.
