Describe
This piece is great. It makes me want to dance.
It makes me happy inside.
It makes it peaceful
in my mind.
In this piece I hear a keyboard and a piano.
What stands out to me is the beat. I want to tap my
foot and move. I am really enjoying this song.
The information helps me understand that is a soul song.
It lets you know it might be a strut.
In the 1960's rhythm and blues remained popular.
Funk and soul started to show up and people
enjoyed it.
The 1960's had Bob Dylan and The Beatles which were huge music legends (1).

"Soulful Strut" was
released in 1968 during the civil rights movement.
It was instrumental and
came at time when everyone needed music (1).
"Soulful Strut" was very influenceal.
Soul was a type of music everyone loved. It helped people
get through sad times.
Artistic context:
This song is very upbeat and makes you happy.
It is similar to the cause and response method in
music.
The piano takes the place of vocals.
It
is every well put together and people still love it
to this day.
The band's choices help me relax and feel happy.
It took me back to the time of the song.
It
helped me have a better understanding of music back in the 1960's and how it evolved (1).
Interpret
The band was communicating their emotions in the song.
It was to help the listeners be happy.
My evidence is if you listen to the beat and how you feel.
It's an amazing song and so many
people love it. You hear the beat, you stomp your foot, and you want to hum it.
Connect
I see so many values in " Soulful Strut". I feel community, compassion, and empathy are just a
few of these values shown in this song.
The evidence I have is this song was created during the civil war movement.
You can close your
eyes and see how it was to help make
people happy and bring people together.

I would say growing up I learned to have compassion for others and have empathy when people
are going through tough times.
I believe I relate to the cultural values of this artifact due to that.
I also relate to going through struggles and relying on music to get me trough.
I feel like I relate most to the bringing people together during though times.
It is important that
someone has someone to lean on when needed.
Growing up I attended a youth group that helped me develop compassion and empathy.
It also
helped me learn to help others during tough times.
I lost my brother when he was young and I
needed people in my community to make it through.
I believe this all helped shape my beliefs
and values.
Reflect
I chose this because I love music.
Music makes me happy.
It brings me comfort in my time of
need.
My cultural perspective influenced my selection of this artifact by just knowing what it feels like
to walk into a room and know you have someone there for you like this music helps you believe.
I love music which helped me relate to this piece.
My cultural perspective shaped my intial reaction and interpetation because we all have a cutural
lens.
I then had to listen to the song a few more times to really understand it.
