The Middle Ages (476-1540 AD) The Middle Ages Ultimately started with the beginning of the fall of the Western Roman Empire.Their lives were all about survival. Major events that took place in this time period was the Gergorian Chant and Polyphony and Organum. The Reaissance (1450-1600 AD) This was the time period for rebirth. This was done through European cultural,political, articstical, and ecomincally following after the Middle Ages. Baroque Age (1600-1750 AD) The term Baroque is derived from Portraguese, meaning “oddly shaped pearl.” This was a very exaggerated period and produced much drama. The Opera was introduced. Classical Age (1725-1825 AD) During this period they wanted to make absolute music. These pieces contained clear phrases and cadences. During this time of the Classical Age The American and French revolution both take place. Major composers discovered include Mozart, Joseph Haydn, and Beethoven. The Romantic Age (1815-1910 AD) In this period, the Romantic composers rebelled agaisnt the normality of the classical composers. These pieces contained much more emotions and modds within them. The were expressed more intensely. Many give credit to Beethoven for this transition from the classical era to the Romantic Age. The American Civil war took place during this era. Opera Opera stems from more than just one musical era. There are many different types of opera. It first started in the latter part of the Renaissance and the early Baroque period. During the classical era, Opera was written in German which was the “Peoples language” Opera on a much larger scale includes big sets and dramtic costumes. These pieces were sung using voice, poetry, and instruments.
