USE YOUR CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS TO READ BETWEEN THE MESSAGES AND MEANINGS OF HOW SOME PEOPLE SPEAK ABOUT MINSTRELSEY MUSIC/SHOWS 1) Watch the Minstrelsy Powerpoint 2) What years was it popular 3). In your own words, considering this true and despicable history, how and why do you think the Minstrelsy Music era is a history of which we should be aware of in regards to specifically the music industry field? From the 1850s to the 1930s, minstrelsy music was very popular. In the context of the music industry, the Minstrelsy Music era is in fact a crucial and worrisome period in American music history for a number of reasons. Folk, blues, and jazz were greatly influenced by minstrelsy music, among other genres. Through minstrel shows, many aspects of African American musical traditions were hijacked and made more widely known. Knowing this influence's history is essential to comprehending the origins of American musical genres. Racist stereotypes and caricatures were prevalent throughout the Minstrelsy Music era, and white artists frequently used blackface to mock and disparage African Americans. This time period serves as a harsh reminder of the pervasive prejudice that has characterized American society and, consequently, the music business. It emphasizes how important it is to acknowledge and deal with these damaging legacies. In summary, the Minstrelsy Music era is a history that should be acknowledged and studied within the music industry field because it offers valuable insight into the industries troubling industry and the ongoing need for critical reflection and progress in the field.
