Did you feel that this film was more about Roméo Dallaire, his heroism, and the injustice done to him, than about the Rwandan genocide and Rwandan people? Is it problematic if this is, in fact, the case? Why, or why not? [Make sure you read Sherene Razack’s critical article before tackling this question]. I feel that this film is centred around Romeo Dallaire. He was placed as the protagonist of the film, so it was entirely from his perspective, as the film was based off his autobiography. The film shows the true horrors of the genocide and the failure of international powers to help, but this is all form his perspective and seen through his lens with the emotions he felt. This is problematic because this film fails to show the perspectives of Rwandans. Showing the perspectives of Rwandans would have shown a more accurate depiction of this historical event.
