Hi, my name is Allen Mateo, that is my preferred name. My parents named me after Ray Allen, a National Basketball Association Hall of Famer known for his incredible three-point shooting. Ray Allen also relates to my name since I also play baseball here at Waubonsee. I am from Atlanta, Ga but I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I moved to Atlanta at 5 years of age and have been there ever since. I came to Waubonsee because of Coach Rodney Lopez, he found a highlight video of myself and reached out to me. I have always wanted to visit Chicago and now I was able to get the opportunity to live there, but I could not pass it up. I have my mom and dad who still live with me in Georgia, along with my brother Adrian. He is sixteen and a junior in high school. This is my first year and second semester at Waubonsee. I currently do not have a major but am looking into diving into sports media once I transfer. I also work at the bookstore here at Waubonsee to help my parents with money and my own bills. Volunteering is another aspect that I am heavily invested to. I help coach a youth team back in Atlanta named Georgia Elite baseball and have been doing it for over three years now. The human experience stood out most to me. To me it means the living a life through the eyes of a human. That includes moments and memories from childhood to adulthood. It is a study of how a person evolves over time in what they go through and see. It is varied as well. One person’s experience is not going to be the same as another’s. They may share similar moment or memories throughout their experience but never will be identical. For example, I lived in the Dominican Republic two months in the summer back when I was fifteen. I went with my best friend and his mother. We both went there to train for baseball but also to spend time with family. I also had family in Dominican Republic but it was my first time going to the country. My friend had already been there multiple times. His experience was new because it was another time going but mines was fresh since it was my first time going.

Reason why should address the concept is because it is essential to learn about what makes humans. It is important to look at experiences and see how they relate to an individual or group of people. It will give tremendous insight on many things that are unique to each person. Reason why we should study it is to have an overall better understanding of how this relates to humanities. How the main points and ideas of the human experience relate to the points and ideas within humanities. Also it will be extremely interesting to learn new ideas and perspectives.
