Introduction to Academic Skills faced a challenge where a family contacted centre and requested to stop teaching children about LGBTQI+ families and Kathryn and her team agrees to give alternative activity to their children but, they will continue teaching other children about diverse families (ACEQA, 2020). These prospective encourages to promote diversity through reflecting diversity positively through resources and material such as create literacy inclusive environment, Offer children activities that inspire them to investigate the similarities and differences between people. encouraging kids to ask questions when they see differences, making sure that enquiries are accurately addressed (Scarlet, 2020). Mass media influence children’s prospective and attitude on diversity in many ways as most young children are exposed to a lot of paper, photographs, and television, which gives them information about the world around them. There are many instances of bias and discrimination in social media, created media, and broadcast media, with many groups being invisible. While watching television, kids have several chances to observe and form prejudices. People with disabilities are hardly ever depicted in positions of political power or holding positions of leadership, even if they are nonetheless commonly represented in limited ways and frequently in inferior roles in cultural media. Australians and refugees are typically depicted negatively in the media, with a concentration on crime and violence. The majority of LGBTQIA+ persons are portrayed through stereotypes, including historically constrained, highly sexualized, and frequently misgender portrayals of transgender people, as well as erroneous or stigmatising vocabulary like "hermaphrodite" instead of "intersex" and "tranny" instead of transgender (Scarlet, 2020). sent the growing importance of communication media in children's life, it is crucial to pay attention to the messages about diversity that are being sent to kids so they can create and comprehend distinctions. Children are especially vulnerable to assess biases about groups that are different from their own because they are in the early stages of cognitive development and focus more on the observable characteristics of groups. Bias will proliferate whenever one of these groups or a member of a group is depicted unfavourably, stereotypically, or when they are underrepresented (Scarlet, 2020). The approaches that can effectively embed diversity in the early childhood education are approaches using specific material, positive identity/ self – esteem approaches. Using specific material approaches Children can identify and learn about individuals and groups through books, dolls, stimulus, and an internet game that has been specifically created for this purpose. telling stories to youngsters to encourage their curiosity, to educate them about diversity, and to limit their social categorisation. Positively Identity/Self – esteem approach demonstrating how experiences can help kids build a better self-concept and sense of self-worth because kids who have positive, realistic ideas of themselves are more inclined to reject stereotypes and prejudices (Scarlet, 2020).
Introduction to Academic Skills Conclusion: To conclude, it is crucial to embed diversity practices in the early childhood education , as most importantly it provides children safe , secure environment to be themselves which leads to establishing trustworthy relationship between children and educator. Embracing diversity also gives chance to educators to uplift their knowledge, use those strategies to teach children about diversity. Creating inclusive environment also provides parents cultural safe environment. While embracing diversity it gives chances to educators to come cross with barriers that can effect diversity such as, mass media, discrimination. It is also necessary for children to recognise difference, diversity around them to see positivity in diversity and embrace it by themselves and when educators also teach them to see difference and encourages them to ask questions about differences it reduces chances for children to be bias.
