BIB-360 Topic 2 – DQ 2 November 1, 2023 Professor and Classmates, The historicity of the Bible is the question of the Bible's relationship to history—covering not just the Bible's acceptability as history but also the ability to understand the literary forms of biblical narrative. According to Wenham &Walton, it is the act of producing a work that attempts to depict an accurate representation of the real past, but defined as it relates to the Gospels and Acts, and Geography is one of the things that can be used that would have been relevant. Many areas found in the Gospels and Acts prove to be evidence for the text. Galilee and Jerusalem still exist, and anyone can walk the same streets as Jesus. The time frame from the events that occurred to when they were written is too short for legends to have developed. They were also written during eyewitnesses' lifetimes who could corroborate or dispute the facts. The gospels do not seem to be written in the typical style of legends because they include details that eyewitnesses could easily prove. Luke 3:1-3 includes a detailed account regarding the time of John the Baptist’s ministry. John 19 includes details of Jesus’ burial place. The apostles also leave in stories that show them to be hard of heart, insensitive, cowardly, and slow to learn. These facts would be edited out in a legendary document. There are also details that clarify the fact that the gospels were written from four different perspectives, and these perspectives reveal that the writers did not try to match their works with another. Ultimately, the apostles had nothing to gain from their message but a life of suffering and death. The authors never renounced their faith, even in the face of death. All these facts confirm that the authors who wrote were men of integrity writing from convictions of what they knew to be true. With this historical evidence, we can eliminate the critic's charge that the gospels are a legendary account of Jesus’ life. Many internal and external evidence proves an early date of the gospel writings. Numerous archaeological and historical records uphold the events of Jesus’ life. The manuscript evidence confirms that we have a genuine copy that is accurate to the originals. Pastor Eli The Holy Bible, English Standard Version. (2016).
