Resource Requirement Resource planning is vital to the success of any program because it guides the project's team alignment. The project stakeholders can utilize a resource plan to ensure the correct resources are involved within the project (Viter, 2022). In other words, resource planning identifies and allocates resources more specifically time, money, program personnel, equipment, and materials. Resource planning also enhances quality of output, reduce risks, and improves communication/coordination of a program. This program critique will be based on the study of “A Health System-Based Critical Care Program with a Novel Tele-ICU: Implementation, Cost, and Structure Details.” The goal of
this study was to implement a tele-ICU program in connection to Fairview Hospitals. The resource requirements for the above program were justified. For example, program stakeholders were able to focus on a specific resource such as “money” by cutting cost during planning and utilizing the tools and resources already implemented in the hospitals systems. Program stakeholders created a tele-ICU model within Epic, which was already implemented that aggregates patient from all Fairview ICUs into a single patient list (Fortis et al., 2014). Improvement Areas
As with any healthcare program there is always room for improvement. An improvement for resources within this program would be to include a framework within the EMR where intensivists can access past treatment plans for their patients. This provides intensivists the insight into medical approaches and treatments other intensivists involved in the patient's care have utilized. Another suggested area of improvement within the program could be, revisiting the staff and resources utilized for tele-ICU. The resources utilized for the tele-ICU are preserved, despite the beneficial factor of “cost-cutting” there can also be negative impacts such
as exhausting financial resources. I would also suggest that program leaders and stakeholders implement a strategy to determine the overall success of the tele-ICU healthcare program. Although clinical staff and intensivists will utilize the program more in depth; patient satisfaction
is also vital to the success of any program. Program leaders can implement “tele” patient surveys
to receive insight into the success of the program. References Fortis, S., Weinert, C., Bushinski, R., Koehler, A. G., & Beilman, G. (2014). A Health System Based Critical Care Program with a Novel Tele-ICU: Implementation, Cost, and Structure
