Personal Power and Personal Values
Personal values are the enduring beliefs or attitudes about the worth of a person, object, idea, or action that influence our decision-making. Values often serve as guiding principles in our
lives and society as a whole. Value-based leadership roles can be understood as a practice that promotes the adoption of meaningful values, considering individuals' interests and levels of authority within an organization and its community. However, when pressured, the power dynamics may alter a leader's ability to consider their values in relation to their client, colleague, or family (Zucker, 2022). The given scenario presents a challenging situation that assesses the configuration of power dynamics impacting an individual's capacity to prioritize the interests of others over personal values. Based on the assessment provided earlier, this document will outline an approach for addressing the request in the given scenario while ensuring alignment with my personal values. The Approach
If placed in this scenario, I would approach the situation by assessing the boundaries guiding my decision-making, actions, and relationship. How (or if) I respond to the individual and how much I decide to try to accommodate the request will likely depend on the relationship. I would provide transparency by bringing awareness of the uncomfortable request because it is possible that the person requesting may need to be made aware of the unreasonable request. I would correspond via email with a detailed explanation of how the request encroaches upon my values, integrity, and professionalism. However, I offer suggestions that make the request more acceptable. For example, ask them to provide details of their individual input for the projects

mentioned and to what degree. In addition, it may be imperative to refer to the personal nature of
the request and its improper use of a professional letter (Johnson, 2022, pp.170-172). Personal Values Explained
A professional leader driven by values is characterized by their personal attributes and possesses a comprehensive understanding of the impact their behaviors have on their immediate work environment and the broader organization. Personal values indicate our beliefs and principles, which extend beyond our professional endeavors and frequently manifest in our personal spheres. Our behaviors and responses serve as indicators to those in our vicinity regarding our identity and character. Personal power influences others and can either have a positive or negative impact. My values serve as a guide to personal power, which helps to identify who I am and what I stand for; furthermore, it constantly reflects on how I choose to behave. However, the reality is that many of us often state values we wish we had, we often cover up the values that we actually possess, deserving ourselves in the process of establishing core values (Zucker, 2022). Conclusion The alignment of personal power and values is crucial for their mutual enhancement, although it is common for conflicts to arise. In order for societies to flourish, the presence of social values is imperative. Similarly, the significance of personal values becomes evident when individuals hold positions of power. Values are essential and unalterable attributes and convictions that collectively guide an organization, its leaders, and its teams (Fairholm, 1996). The aforementioned traits or qualities not only embody the organization's top priorities, deeply ingrained beliefs, and fundamental principles, but they also reflect the personal influence and values of its leaders, which serve as the driving forces behind the organization.
