My First Goal At Drexel
Goal #1: Describe the Goal.
My first goal at Drexel would be get on the Dean`s list. Getting on Drexel`s dean list is a goal I have
for myself, because I feel like it is a great accomplishment. Not only will it show that the all the hard
work I put in was successful, but also make me feel like I can do what I set my mind too.
Why is it important to you?
This goal is important to me, because not only will it look good, but it will help prove to myself that
the goals I set are realistic and attainable. The Dean`s list is probably my top goal from this list.
Strictly based off the facts that it will prove so much to me. Being able to know that I can do this
will give me the confidence to achieve the rest of my goals.
How will you achieve the goal?
I will achieve this goal by putting the time in. For me, putting the time into studying, doing
homework, and going to lecture will help me achieve this goal. Knowing the material is a key
component in succeeding. When test time comes if you do not know the material it will be very hard
to do good on the test.
When will you complete the goal?
I would like to complete this goal for majority of the quarters I spend at Drexel. This is an ongoing
goal that I have. Being able to accomplish for majority if not all of my quarters at Drexel would be a
great accomplishment for me. To be able to tell all of the people that I care about that could achieve
this would be incredible.
What can potentially keep you from completing the goal?

Patron Saints
St. Thérèse of Lisieux
Patron saints are a very important part of the Confirmation process. The are a strong source of
guidance throughout the rest of our lives, and inspiration for us as Catholics, though we can still
look to the others saints for these things. A patron saint is a saint who is considered an advocate for a
country, person, activity, or really anything else. They are believed to intercede for special reasons
or for things that they are known to represent. Catholics have them to honor the saint for how they
lived or something they did, as well as to have them help us in special ways with God
. For my
patron saint, I chose Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, also known as 'the Little Flower.' She lived from 1873
to 1897, so she died when she was 24. Her feastday is October first,

Thérèse did so without question, though she still had to constantly ask permission for everything and
could never take her full vows as a nun. A few weeks later, she fell ill and coughed blood. She didn't
tell anyone, but she became very obviously sick by the next year, and was bed–bound. Through her
illness, she smiled and stayed so positive that some people actually questioned her illness, though
she was in unimaginable pain. Thérèse died on September 30, 1897. I chose Saint Thérèse because
she inspires me in that she was able to find ways to make a difference and offer it up to God in every
way she could. Though she didn't do anything major for the world, she is an excellent example of
strong faith because she held on to her faith to make every sacrifice, even through her painful
illness. I also struggle with a heated temper much like she did, and she conquered hers with the help
of diligent prayer. I am thrilled to have Saint Thérèse of Lisieux as my patron because she did acts
great and small to help those around her and offer up to

Saint Katharine Drexel Essay
Katharine once said, "Christ wishes the Christian Community to be a body that is perfect because
we work together towards a single end, and the higher the motive which actuates this collaboration
the higher, no doubt, will be the union. Now the end in question is supremely exalted: the
continuous sanctification of the Body for the glory of God and the Lamb that was slain." (A–Z
Quotes). This quote describes Katharine's way of working towards creating her orphanages and
schools with her order. Despite overcoming many difficulties in her earlier life, Saint Katharine
Drexel created her own religious order, donated generously to charities, and established schools to
teach the faith the others; consequently, she is one of the most dynamic missionary saints from
America.
Saint Katharine Drexel was born in Philadelphia on November 26, 1858 to Hannah Langstroth and
Francis Anthony Drexel (Wallace). Hannah grew ill and later died on January 29, 1883. In February
of 1885, her father became ill and later died from that illness (Wallace). After the death of her
parents, she inherited a large sum of money, which she later

Her orphanage was blessed on July 28, 1888 (Wallace). She trained with her religious order, called
the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, for three and a half years before opening her first school in
Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1892. By 1942 she had a system of African American Catholic schools in
thirteen states, plus forty mission centers and twenty–three rural schools (Smith). After living a very
religious life, Saint Katharine died on March 3, 1995 (Wallace) at the age of 96. Before her death
she suffered from a heart attack at age 77 but miraculously survived (Smith). Five years after her
death, she was canonized by Pope John Paul II on October 1, 2000. Saint Katharine was the second
American born saint to be canonized (Catholic

Drexel Personal Statement
I am applying to the joint program with the Drexel University College of Medicine because I have a
great passion for the sciences and am eager to pursue a career in the medical field. This enthusiasm
for the sciences has been a part of me since I was young, and it has developed throughout my
highschool years. In witnessing my mother's battle with uterine cancer and my grandfather's
recovery from several heart attacks, I have realized that I would love to help others who are
suffering. I know that this program at Drexel is a good fit for me because I share in their belief that
all patients should be shown compassion and respect. I aspire to show my patients a high level of
care and concern in the future because I know that it will be the most

St. Margaret Of Scotland Essay
St. Margaret of Scotland was born in present day Hungary around 1046. She had two siblings named
Edgar and Cristina. St. Margaret grew up extremely privileged. She was the daughter of English
prince, Edward the Exile, and granddaughter of Edmund Ironside, king of England. She and her
family were very religious, as was the Hungarian court. Still young, Margaret moved to England
with her family
. Her father died, therefore her brother was considered as a possible successor to the
English throne. But it was some time until her brother was finally proclaimed as king. He was
considered too young when his father died, so Harold Godwinson was elected king. After his defeat
at the battle of Hastings, Edgar was finally given the title as king. Agatha,

Margaret died just three days after finding hearing the news her son and husband has passed. She
had just turned fifty, but her life of constant fasting had taken its toll and made Margaret ill.
St. Margaret was canonized a saint in 1250 by Pope Innocent IV in recognition of her "personal
holiness, fidelity to the Church, work for religious reform, and charity." On June 19th, 1250, her
remains were taken to a chapel in Dunfermline Abbey where she was buried before the high altar.
Today, we celebrate her feast day on November 16th (the day of her death.) She is patron of
Scotland and known as "The Pearl of Scotland." There are hundreds of schools named after St.
Margaret that remember her reformation of the church and help to the poor.
I chose St. Margaret as my patron saint because she gave a lot of time and money to the poor. She
read the Bible daily, even though people (like her husband) didn't have the same beliefs as her. She
was focused on her faith and encouraged people in her life to live a devout life and grow in prayer
and holiness. I admire that she barely slept every night and fasted often in order to spend more time
worshipping the Lord. St. Margaret is someone who I will continue to admire even after my

Charlotte Temple Essay
The Tabloid of the Century (1800’s –1900’s) The general reason I think Charlotte
Temple stayed on the best seller list for so many years is because the subjects that were discussed in
the book were taboo in that day and time. Montraville was a soldier in the army who was about
twenty three years old, and Charlotte was only fifteen. He was much older than Charlotte.
Montraville influenced her in evil ways; he impressed her with his knowledge of love and the world
by writing her a letter and giving it to her personally . Montraville knew this was forbidden but gave
it to her anyway. “ Tis a romantic attempt,” said he,”and should I even
succeed in seeing and conversing with her, it can

There were continued instances of behavior that were unacceptable in that time. Montraville
persuaded and tricked Charlotte into leaving her home and going with him when his father had
warned him not to use a girl like this. “There is one thing I think it my duty to caution you
against; the precipitancy with which young men frequently rush into matrimonial engagements, and
by their thoughtlessness draw many a deserving women into scenes of poverty and distress. a soldier
has no business to think of a wife till his rank is such as to place him above the fear of bringing into
the world a train of helpless innocents, heirs only to penury and affliction. ... But mark me boy, if on
the contrary, you rush into a precipitate union with a girl of little or no fortune, take the poor
creature from a comfortable home and kind friends, and plunge her into all the evils a narrow
income and increasing family conflict, I will leave you to enjoy the blessed fruits of your rashness;
for by all that is sacred , neither my interest or fortune shall ever be exerted in your favor. I am
serious , therefore imprint this conversations on your memory, and let it influence your future
conduct”( Rowson 40). After the warning from his father, Montraville still kept seeing
Charlotte. Montraville eluded

Darlene Deibler Rose
Darlene Deibler Rose 1917–2004
From the day Darlene Deibler Rose was born she knew she wanted to be in missionary work. She
was born on May 10, 1917 in Boone Iowa. She was raised in a Christian household and was blessed
enough to have that. At the age of 21 she was happily married to Russell, who also had a calling for
missionary work. They together moved to the islands in New Guinea and changed the lives of many
natives. When the war began to start they had to make one of the hardest decisions anyone would
ever have to make, whether to stay on the islands or to leave. Of course by the power of God, they
made the correct decision. Darlene faced many atrocities during her time in the prison camps. From
questioning Gods power to being questioned

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Analysis
Not long after that, the Adelburgers and their contacts were on the move once again, working for
those who were not Ryanites like they were. Upon making contact with the freed slaves at their
temporary hideout at 2:18AM, Walther and his boys were shocked to hear even more details about
the stories behind their enslavement. As horrific and nauseous as it was, only St. Elizabeth Ann
Seton, the other patron saint of Catholic Education, seemed to comprehend the important, profound
truth of the matter. During the days of her life, she once said: "Disorder in the society is the result of
disorder in the family." And she was right, as the Adelburgers had realized that night. These
potential dwellers and recently freed slaves were the result of the problems within society, of which
stem from within the family unit – the primary building block of not just a healthy, thriving Catholic
education, but also the stability of all nations. When the family suffers from disorder, the national
folk body of a country also suffers as a result. Looking for people who cared about them, these
youth had found themselves ensnared by the illusory promises of those who do not have their
interests at heart. Instead, they sought to use and

What was considered as being horrific in the eyes of the Ryanite Adelburgers, was the fact that some
of these slavers and their associated street gangs had associations with the Occult, or at the very
least, followed it for their own interests. Even though it was a dreary realization, it did not stop or
demotivate the greatest of Ryanites who were proud to have considered themselves as being part of
the heroic legacy of the Children's Paradise–its fame and honor. Knowing this, they decided to take
matters into their own hands, and informed Chandler and his fellow Nightingales to begin sending in
Adelburger reinforcements to start escorting the freedmen to begin new lives inside St. Philomena's

The Venerable Honor Nano Nagle
The venerable Honora "Nano" Nagle, foundress of the Presentation Sisters in the mid–18th century,
was an Irish woman who responded to the needs of the impoverished and oppressed Catholic
community, leaving an enduring legacy of education and service to the poor. Credited as being a
pioneer of Catholic education in Ireland, Nano Nagle inspired her closest companions to form a
community called the Society for the Charitable Instruction of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and their
enduring legacy can be observed through the work of the Presentation sisters around the world. The
plight of the poor in Dublin from the 1740's inspired her generosity and assistance of the
marginalized and this commitment to service continues throughout the world today through her Ode
and those who support them. At a time in the history of Ireland that harsh Penal

Upon her return to Ireland, after the death of her father, eventually the widespread poverty led her to
begin her vocation to educate the Irish children. At considerable personal risk, it is believed that in
1749 she secretly founded her first school, operating illegally. This number quickly grew, and over
the next 20 years Nano's attempts to enlist outside help to educate the poor resulted in her
establishing her own religious order. In 1782, two years before her death a Relief Bill was passed,
finally legitimizing the network of schools se had founded in the city with over 400 pupils in seven
parishes. The work of the Presentation sisters through education, and a variety of ministries
continues, in her spirit around the world
