Cultural Considerations for Immigrants and Refugees : When carrying out counseling session with immigrants and refugees, there are various problems one should put into consideration. Immigrants (Documented/Undocumented ) A documented immigrant is a person who has legally moved from their home country to another country. An undocumented immigrant is a person who does not have the legal right to reside in a country other than their legal country of residence. Many immigrants have experienced some kind of trauma which led them to immigrate to a new country whether documented or undocumented. Therapists need to have an understanding of the experience that brought immigrants to leave their country, their migration experience, and the immigrant’s post migration adjustment (Bemak & Chung, 2014). Documented immigrants are more open to therapy and accepting help over undocumented immigrants Undocumented migrants will have the extra fear of being ousted back to their nation of beginning, including another level of injury the advisor will ought to work through to be able to bargain with wants of the client. B.
