Describe the historical relationship between labor and relaxation in the United States. It has been drilled in our heads that we must be hard workers and how our ancestors worked so hard for the 8-hour work week. In order to get relaxation, you must be a hard worker but at the same time being a hard worker makes it impossible to relax. According to Celeste Headlee, what is the "most successful propaganda campaign of all time"? You have to earn your place on this earth and that is done by being hardworking. Your worth is defined by how hard you work. Explain "short term thinking" and the potential consequences of the so-called "tyranny of now." Our short-term thinking keeps us thinking about now and because of this world leaders are bickering while our world burns. How does the podcast explain "obligations" to our ancestors. What is Ord's distinction between "marshmallow brain" and "acorn brain"? Marshmallow brain is drawn by instant rewards and gratification. Acorn brain is considered the long-term brain. (You can do the breathing exercise if you want. You should do it, friends. Take care of you.) What is "intergenerational empathy" and why does Saltmarshe cry? Saltmarshe cried because she realized she wouldn’t be around to scoop him up and save him from the world she had been reading about in the article. Intergenerational empathy is thinking about the future generation and feeling empathy and emotions about what type of world you are leaving behind for them. Explain "7 Generational Thinking" for the Oneida Nation. What do you learn about the obligations of people to Turtle Island from Diane & Michelle Schenandoah of Wolf Clan? Seven Generation thinking is the thought of how my decisions today will affect 7 generations down the line. There is an obligation from them to only take what they need and think about the future generations. What do we learn about kindness & empathy from Jamil Zaki's research? Why does this research feel like a disconnect from your own lived experiences? Empathy is one of the key ingredients to making our species. Our empathy levels have decreased over the time and that is why there is a feeling of disconnect to the research we learned about I did the Human Layers Exercise and thought it was interesting I looked back on my grandpa as a little boy and how different the world was then. I thought the exercise was nice.
