The Country that I decided to learn more about is Kenya. My parents are from Kenya and this assignment gives me the opportunity to learn more about Kenya that I don’t know about. I have been to Kenya numerous times and the most recent being last December. Kenya is located in East Africa, it has very scenic landscapes and lots of wildlife around to see. There are lots of things to see and do such as going to Mombasa to go to the beach, ride camels, and enjoy the nice breeze.One of the most well-known landmarks in Kenya is the Nairobi National lake which has all sorts of animals that you can drive by such as lions, gazelles, and rhinos. There are over 30 distinct languages with Swahili being the official language of Kenya. My parents speak a language called Ekegusii which I can understand and speak.The predominant religion is Christianity, around 50% of Kenyans identify as Protestant then Catholicism follows. Kenya is runned by a national government and 47 county governments. Kenya has only had 4 presidents since 1964. The current president of Kenya is Uhuru Kenyatta son of former president Jomo Kenyatta. Kenya has very delicious food such as Ugali which is a cornmeal, Nyama Choma which is Swahili for grilled meat using a grill with charcoal. Pilau is attributed to the coastal people in Kenya. It is a special rice cooked with aromatic spices and either chicken or beef. These topics are important to the profession of Arms because it shows how we are culturally aware and understanding of others culture to not interfere or tamper with it. An example is if a soldier goes to Iraq and smashes a clay vase, they were not being considerate towards that culture or attempting to preserve their artifacts. Being open-minded and more aware of other cultures are attributes that are needed in the Army.
