Altimeter Errors
4 Major Altimeter Errors 1. Instrument Error 2. Position error from aircraft static pressure systems 3. Nonstandard atmospheric pressure 4. Nonstandard temperatures
1. Instrument Error Instrument error refers to what the altimeter thinks is happening when flying. To fix this you will need to set the altitude and corrective pressure settings before a flight so the altimeter will function correctly.

2. Error from aircraft static pressure systems It is important to set the altimeter for the area to where the plane will be flying. Static pressure can happen when ducts going to the altimeter are clogged with debris and dust. To ensure there isn’t problems cleaning out this ducts can be necessary.
3. Nonstandar d atmospheric pressure Atmospheric pressure can change drastically depending on where someone or a plane is. Lower Pressure is colder, and higher pressure is warmer. Flying to low pressure the altimeter will think it is lower and if higher pressure the altimeter will think it is descending and will correct and will go higher.
4. Nonstandar d Temperatur es Similar to Pressure. Flying from warm temperature to low the altimeter will think that you are going up and will think you are higher than you are and vice versa for going from cold to warm temperature.
