CJ-207 Assignment 2-2 Template: Juvenile Court Jurisdiction Why this court jurisdiction exists The purpose of the juvenile justice court is to handle the requirements and situations of young people who are involved in the criminal justice system. It acknowledges that rather than punishment, juvenile offenders need specialized care and rehabilitation. The goal of juvenile courts is to assist young people in acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to mature and effectively reintegrate into society. Importance of this court jurisdiction Its jurisdictional differentiation is significant because it offers a distinct system centered on the growth and well-being of young people with the goal of deterring criminal activity in the future. The objective is to safeguard the rights of juvenile offenders and facilitate their rehabilitation by removing them from the adult criminal justice system. Issues that can arise from this court jurisdiction The possibility of disparities and inconsistencies in the way minors are handled by various jurisdictions is one of many issues. Disparities in rehabilitation and punishment might result from different laws and practices. The problem of figuring out the right age range for juvenile jurisdiction is another. The age restrictions imposed by various jurisdictions may vary, resulting in inequalities in the treatment of juvenile offenders. Furthermore, there may be disagreements on the appropriateness of trying some crimes in adult or juvenile courts, which raises issues with accountability and the proper ratio of punishment to rehabilitation.
