Audit Project
I have reviewed the HR master, payroll files, and income statement that the company provided me. This summary will contain my plan to address California Crunch Company’s owner’s concerns based on the provisions availed through the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct, as well as stipulate the steps I will undertake to audit the firm.
The AICPA Code of Professional Conduct denotes a collection of rules, interpretations, and principles that direct certified public accountants (CPA) when they undertake their professional responsibilities (AICPA, 2015). Any CPA must follow the AICPA Code of professional whenever they are addressing any issue related to accounting or audit for any business in the United States. Below are some of the rules, interpretations, and principles that I will abide by when addressing concerns raised by the California Crunch Company owner regarding the firm’s payroll. These codes include:
1.
Objectivity – It entails that the auditors undertake their engagements in a way that upholds their belief in their work and doesn’t compromise in any way. It entails auditors making their independent judgment of the audit (AICPA, 2015). 2.
Integrity – It entails that auditors must adhere to the utmost standard of professionalism including honesty in their work and associations with their clientele and staff.
3.
Competence – An auditor’s competence is highlighted by their ability to demonstrate knowledge, experiences, skills, and assessment when undertaking their duties.
4.
Due care – The auditor has a duty to obtain reasonable data and information that they intend to use to see if it is free of misstatements such as fraud or errors.
5.
Confidentiality – An auditor must not disclose any information on the client to anyone without the client’s consent (AICPA, 2015).
6.
Full disclosure of any conflict of interest – An auditor has a duty to disclose to the client prior to taking the job if a conflict of interest exists.
7.
Disclosure of any referral or commission fees to the client – An auditor must inform the client about these fees. These are charges the client will pay if the current accountant has to refer the client to another accountant for specialized services that their firm does not offer (AICPA, 2015).
Having understood the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct all CPAs are expected to abide by, I will develop steps I intend to take to conduct the external duty for my client – California Crunch Company. The following steps are what a CPA should undertake when conducting an external audit and how I intend to apply them to my client:
1.
Define the objective – Stipulate the audit’s objective outcome and utilize this information
to determine the type of information needed moving forward. My objective is to ascertain whether or not there is any issue with my client’s payroll. I will require the company’s HR master file, the income statement for the previous year, and the payroll file for the last six payment periods of 2018. 2.
Inform about the audit – The auditor is required to inform everyone about the audit process due to commence (Porter & Hatherly, 2014). I will relay information to my client’s employees, my senior management team, and any interested stakeholders of I am due to commence an audit on California Crunch Company.
3.
Undertake an audit meeting – During the meeting, the auditor is expected to present their objectives, procedures, and timeframe for the audit process and completion (Porter & Hatherly, 2014). I will organize a meeting with the company’s owner and their finance and accounting

department staff and stipulate the audit’s objectives. I will give them a timeframe for the audit process. 4.
Fieldwork – After the meeting and laying of the audit plan to the company’s owner and relevant department, the audit process commences. I intend to undertake a full investigation on whether or not there are issues in the company’s payroll. 5.
Review and communicate the audit outcomes – The auditor upon completion of the audit process should inform the relevant parties of their audit findings (Porter & Hatherly, 2014). Upon
completing the audit, I will present my findings to the company’s owner and our firm’s senior management team.
6.
Undertake an audit exit meeting – The auditor will undertake a meeting with the owner and the relevant department to inform them that the audit process is over and what the results were to ensure everyone is aware of what the audit discovered (Porter & Hatherly, 2014). I will then offer my advice based on the findings and give directions and recommendations for any improvements or changes that may need to be undertaken. 7.
Prepare and submit audit report – An auditor upon completing the audit process expected to retreat and write a final audit report. After my exit meeting, I will retreat to prepare the final audit report for the company. The report will capture all the information analyzed, whether the information is precisely presented or not, and whether or not I discovered any significant issues with the company’s payroll.
Overall, the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct will guide me when undertaking the audit process to ensure I deliver the best possible outcome for the client. The stipulated process will ensure, the audit done is undertaken in a systematic and comprehensible manner to ensure the successful completion of the audit.
