Concept explainers
To Explain:When to use the LCM method.
Explanation of Solution
Given: Explain to the fellow student when you would use the LCM method to add two rational expressions. Give two examples of adding two rational expressions, one I which you would use the LCM and other in which you do not.
LCM method is used when the denominators are not same
By taking the LCM of the denominators we can add the two rational expressions easily and correctly.
For example:
In this rational expression, the denominator is not same therefore using the LCM method to solve.
Whereas
In this rational expression the denominator is same therefore, we do not need to use LCM method.
