Question
Chapter 9.3, Problem 6SB
Summary Introduction
To review:
The function of the ligand-gated ion channel.
Introduction:
Ion channels are present in the plasma membrane of a cell. They permit ions to pass through the channel pore. They participate in the establishment of the resting membrane potential as well as in building action potentials across the membrane. They are classified on a variable basis, like the type of gating, type of ions and the type of cellular localization. The types of ion channels based on the gating system are voltage-gated channels and ligand-gated channels.
