Chapter 9.3, Problem 4CC
Summary Introduction
To identify:
The result of given experiment, if it is performed with cancer cell with reference to Figure 9.17 “The effect of platelet-derived growth factor (PCGF) on cell division”, in the textbook.
Introduction:
Cancer is term that is characterized by mutations that disrupt the normal cell growth mechanism and produce potentially malignant cell. That can invades and spread in surrounding tissues throughout the body.
As normal cells have the property of contact inhibition, so they are different from cancerous cells. A normal cell in comparison to cancer cell shows density dependent cell proliferation.

- In 2005, researcher Woo-suk Hwang reported that he had made immortal stem cells from human patients. His research was hailed as a breakthrough for people affected by degenerative diseases, because stem cells may be used to repair a persons own damaged tissues. Hwang published his results in a peer-reviewed journal. In 2006, the journal retracted his paper after other scientists discovered that Hwangs group had faked their data. Does the incident show that results of scientific studies cannot be trusted? Or does it confirm the usefulness of a scientific approach, because other scientists discovered and exposed the fraud?arrow_forwardGenetics Question 5arrow_forwardGenetics Q1arrow_forward

- QUESTION9 Imagine that a researcher has a cell from a genetically engineered organism and a clone of that same organism. The researcher uses PCR and then runs a DNA fingerprint on the two samples. What should the researcher find on the gel? O A. The gel will be blank because the heat from the PCR will destroy the DNA. The gel will be blank because the heat from the PCR will change the charge of the DNA and cause it to run in the opposite direction, off of the gel and OB. into the buffer. OC. The DNA banding pattem for the two organisms will be identical. OD. The DNA banding pattern for the two organisms will be different because every organism has original DNA.arrow_forwardplease helparrow_forwardReview View Help Editing A" B IU Av =<=v 至 三 ... 11.
