Chapter 9.2, Problem 4AYLO
Summary Introduction

To discuss:

The meaning of mechanical advantage (MA), to calculate MA using effort and resistance arm measurements, and to understand the advantages of levers with MA greater or less than 1.0

Introduction:

Bones act as levers that help with mobility of the body. A great change in the force is exerted when the levers (bones) are longer. A lever is a fixed rod that revolves around a fixed hinge. A lever has three parts, fulcrum, effort, and resistance. The effort (force) applied at the first point is transmitted through the fulcrum (hinge) to the second point, so that the load (object) is moved. The main aim of a lever is to augment an input force to produce a greater output force.
