A coil is formed by winding 250 turns of insulated 16-gauge copper wire (diameter 1.3 mm) in a single layer on a cylindrical form of radius 12 cm. What is the resistance of the coil? Neglect the thickness of the insulation.
The copper windings of a motor have a resistance of 46 Ω at 20oC when the motor is idle. After the motor has run for several hours, the resistance rises to 59 Ω. What is the temperature in Celsius of the windings now? Ignore changes in the dimensions of the windings. The temperature coefficient of resistivity for copper is 4.3 × 10-3 K-1.

- Hi, I have a question regarding electromagnetism. The question is as follows: An aluminum rod has a resistance of 1.590 Ω at 20.0°C. Calculate the resistance of the rod at 102°C by accounting for the changes in both the resistivity and the dimensions of the rod. The coefficient of linear expansion for aluminum is 24.0 ✕ 10-6 (°C)−1.arrow_forwardThermocoax is a type of coaxial cable used for high-frequency filtering in cryogenic quantum computing experiments. Its stainless-steel shield has an inner diameter of 0.350 mm, and its Nichrome conductor has a diameter of 0.170 mm. Nichrome is used because its resistance does not change much in going from room temperature to near absolute zero. The insulating dielectric is magnesium oxide (MgO), which has a dielectric constant of 9.70. Calculate the capacitance per meter of Thermocoax.arrow_forwardWhale and Kanmuro are two islands located in the Chimera archipelago. These two are separated by a distance of 20 miles. A power link is to be established between them. The power link delivers a maximum power of 600 MW at full capacity with an operating voltage of 500 kV. Solve for the resistivity of the cable, assuming a conductor diameter of 1.5 cm. Express your answer in p0-m.arrow_forward
- A person grasps the ends of an electrically conducting copper wire in each hand. The wire has a cross-sectional area of 4.0x106 m² and its surface is not insulated. If the person's hands are wet, the resistance of the possible electrical pathway from one hand, up the arm, across the chest and down into the other hand is about 1 kQ. (a) A current of 10 mA can “freeze" the muscles so the hands are clenched around the wires. Estimate the potential difference between the ends of the wire which would cause this. (b) How much power is dissipated in the person's body if this current flows? (c) The ends of the wire are connected to make a circuit that includes a battery, If the person grasps the wire with hands 0.20 m apart, comment on the resistances of the possible paths of electric current. The resistivity of copper is 1.7×108 Qm.arrow_forwardWhale and Kanmuro are two islands located in the Chimera archipelago. These two are separated by a distance of 20 miles.
