The difference between a mixture, a solution and a compound needs to be explained.
Concept introduction:
Mixtures are categorized into homogenous and heterogeneous mixtures of two types. A heterogeneous mixture is those in which the different substances remain distinct and do not combine smoothly throughout. A homogeneous mixture is those whose composition is constant all across.

In compounds the properties are different from those of its elements. Mixtures show the properties of all its constituent elements. In mixture solute particles are dissolved in solvent. Solvent is present in larger amount than solute in solution.
Explanation of Solution
A mixture composed of two or more substances which are not chemically connected. A solution is a mixture that resembles to be a single substance in which materials are uniformly connected by dissolving. Compounds are substances made up of two or more chemically combined elements.
Component of mixtures are extracted by physical method. Constituent of compounds can be extracted only by chemical method.
