Given information :

Calculation :

Let the millilitres of a 20% acid solution be $x$

Therefore the acid solution is $\frac{20}{100}x=0.20x$

40 millilitres of 75% acid solution in millilitres is $\frac{75}{100}40=0.75\left(40\right)$ .

Therefore according to question the equation formed is

  $\begin{array}{l}0.20x+0.75\left(40\right)=0.30\left(x+40\right)\\ 0.20x+30=0.30x+12\\ 30-12=0.30x-0.20x\\ 18=0.10x\\ \frac{18}{0.10}=x\\ x=180\end{array}$

Hence, the millilitres of a 20% acid solution is 180.
