Chapter 8.3, Problem 11BYGO
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
The thoracic cage consists of three major parts namely thoracic vertebrae, sternum, and ribs. It protects the lungs and hearts by forming a rough conical enclosure and also produces attachment for the upper limb and pectoral girdle. It contains the broad base and the narrower superior apex. The inferior border of the thoracic cage is known as costal margin (arc of the lower ribs). Other than with thoracic organ, it protects spleen, liver, and kidneys. The main role of the thoracic cage is regulation of breath.
