Question
Chapter 8.2, Problem 13BYGO
Summary Introduction
To differentiate:
Between pelvis and hindlimb of humans and apes along with the reason for this difference.
Introduction:
Pelvis joins the core and upper part of the body to the lower partand protects parts of the intestine and reproductivesystem. The pelvisregion includes a pelvic cavity, bony pelvis, pelvic floor, and perineum. It is a ring of three bones, namely, two hip bones and one sacrum. Hindlimbs or lower limbs, on the other hand, are attached to the pelvic girdleand are primarily involved in locomotion. It has three regions, namely, femoral region, crural region and tarsal region, with 30 bones in total.

Whereas some of the skeletal transitions to bipedality appear to be isolated adaptations, others clearly occurred in tandem. A good
example is the reorganization of the pelvic girdle as it correlates to a change in the vertebral column. For this question, explain one way
in which a change in the former facilitated a change in the latter. How did this change in the shape of the vertebral column aid in
bipedal locomotion/posture? (100-150 wds.)
The adoption of bipedalism involved profound changes in the vertebral column and musculature due to the altered loading conditions and motion requirements. Thoroughly discuss the structural adaptations and changes in the vertebral column and musculature of birds and humans that allow bipedal posture.
In terms of the differences between the opossum, bird, bat, and mole skeletons, which is most like the human (and therefore, most primitive or generalized)? Which is least like the human and, therefore, the most specialized?
