Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The quality of the water produced from the sewage treatment process matched the quality of the water in our current drinking water system. Whether the treated sewage water can be accepted as drinking water or not has to be found and commented on either way.
Concept Introduction:
Water pollution: It can be defined as alternation in physical, chemical and biological characteristics of water through natural or human activities and making it unsuitable for its designated use.
Water treatment: when effluent discharged into a river body such as lake, river or sea a number of process occur like physical, chemical and biological characteristics of water change which causes loss of organism.
The extent of damage depend upon type of pollutant present in effluent, non-bio degradable pollutant like mercury are most deadly as they accumulate in aquatic organism which lead to bio magnifications.

By 2015, reports surfaced of high lead levels in Flint city water. High lead levels in municipal water can have devastating health ramifications for a city's population, since lead is a neurotoxin that is particular dangerous for developing brains. After Flint began treating its own water, the percentage of children with elevated blood levels increased from 2.4% from 4.9%. Flint's water crisis was caused by the failure to adequately control corrosion of the lead and iron pipes that distribute water throughout the city, allowing rust and lead to taint the city's water supply. The increased corrosiveness of the Flint-treated water was due to several factors. We will look at just one of those factors in this activity: Failure to treat the lead…arrow_forwardA cough syrup, which comes in a concentrated syrup, contains red dye #40.The red dye #40 syrup is diluted three consecutive times by a factor of 2 Match the dilution with the correct solution shown in the image. He sends a 14.0 mL sample of the well water to the EPA to be tested for the presence of cadmium. What is the maximum amount of CdCd (in μgμg) that can be present in this 14.0 mL sample based on its MCL? The maximum contaminant level (MCL) set by the EPA of cadmium in drinking water is 0.0050 mg/L. And that is 5 ppb.
