The ions which have the same electronic structure and a same number of valence electrons are known as the isoelectronic ions. Such ions show similar chemical properties.
The size of the isoelectronic species depends on the nuclear charge. As the nuclear charge increases, the size of the isoelectronic ions decreases and vice-versa. In general, the size of the anion is always greater than the size of cation.
