Interpretation:

The orbital diagram for each ion is to be stated. The given ions are to be categorized as diamagnetic or paramagnetic.

Concept introduction:The pictorial representation of the electrons in an atom is termed as orbital diagram of that atom. The electrons are filled in orbitals on the basis of three rules. Auf Bau principle states that “each electron occupies the lowest energy orbital”. The Pauli Exclusion Principle states that “only two electrons can fit into a single orbital”. Hund’s rule states that “electrons go into different orbitals in the same sub-level before doubling up inside orbitals”.A substance can show three different kinds of magnetic behaviors that is paramagnetism, diamagnetism, and ferromagnetism. The identification is based on the basis of number of electrons present in the complex.

To determine:The orbital diagram for each ion and the categorization of the given ions as diamagnetic or paramagnetic.
