The both sides of equation are equal, while two sides of an inequality may or may not be equal.

Explanation of Solution

We know that an equation is a mathematical expression containing an equal to sign. The both sides of an equation are same under all circumstances. For example,

  $x-62=156$ is an equation.

An inequality is a mathematical statement containing unequal signs like:

  $>$ Greater than,

  $<$ Less than,

  $\ge$ Greater than or equal to,

  $\le$ Less than or equal to.

Either of these symbols lies between left and right part of an inequality.
