Concept introduction: Alternative splicing also known as differential splicing is an exclusive process which occurs in higher phylum multicellular eukaryotic organisms where the exons of the mRNA are spliced along with introns alternatively depending on the protein to be produced. Human beings have 30,000 genes but 1 million proteins are produced. This protein diversity is generated with the help of alternative splicing.
