Concept introduction: Biomolecules that are composed of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen are collectively known as carbohydrates. They are also known as sugars or saccharides. Based upon the behavior on hydrolysis, carbohydrates can be classified into- monosaccharides, disaccharides, and polysaccharides. Polysaccharides are composed of several monosaccharide units on hydrolysis and they are joined together by glycosidic linkage. They are classified into –homopolysaccharides and heteropolysaccharides.
